Cash Drawer

Count the starting float at open and reconcile against the day’s cash sales at close.

2 min read · in your admin: /admin/cash-drawer

The Cash Drawer page tracks one drawer session per shop day. You open it with a counted float, the register adds cash sales as they happen, and you close it with a physical count. The page shows the difference.

Open the drawer

  1. Count the cash in the drawer right now.
  2. Enter it in "Starting cash" and press "Open Drawer".

During the day

While the session is open you see three tiles: "Starting float", "Cash sales so far" and "Expected in drawer now". The expected figure is the float plus cash sales, so you can spot-check the drawer before closing.

TipOnly sales paid by Cash count. Card and check payments never touch the drawer, and a cash refund is subtracted because that money physically left the drawer too.

Close out

  1. Count every bill and coin and enter the total in "Counted cash".
  2. Add a note if you need to explain a paid-out or a discrepancy.
  3. Press "Close Drawer". The page reports the expected amount and whether you were over, short, or exactly matched.

History

Past sessions are listed below with Opening, Expected, Counted and Variance. A non-zero variance is shown in red — that is the one number worth chasing.

CarefulAny staff role can open and close the drawer, but the variance history is financial reporting and is only shown to admin, manager and sales.
